Spectacle lenses

For the manufacturing of optical lenses Elma designs and produces modular and special custom-made fine cleaning lines. The basic ultrasonic technology is perfectly suitable both for the finest cleaning before the surface coating and for intermediary cleaning stages during the manufacturing process. We find ideal solutions to cleaning problems with high-profile products in close cooperation with the optical manufacturers.

Cleaning of casting moulds

For the manufacturing of plastic spectacle lenses casting moulds are used. The removal of monomer residues, fingermarks and dust from the casting moulds, requires a gentle cleaning procedure which is adjusted to the demands of mineral glass (semi-aqueous with solvent, aqueous or containing concentrated sulfuric acid) and which should not shorten the service life of the moulds. Elma has developed cleaning solutions that have proved successful several times.

Cleaning for inspection

After the mechanical processing of mineral casting moulds or spectacle lenses, a preliminary ultrasonic cleaning stage is required to allow visual checks for faults or damages before any secondary processing starts. These preliminary cleaning processes must fulfill different requirements – Elma provides various cleaning procedures depending on the production technology in use. For the cleaning of plastic semi-products which already have a hard coating the cleaning process (chemical and ultrasound) is adjusted precisely to the requirements, so that the pieces are not damaged.

Cleaning for coating

Before coating, the spectacle lenses must undergo a final cleaning process which guarantees

  • that the lenses are perfectly clean without any residues, and
  • that the surfaces are conditioned for the various required coating processes (hard coating, anti-reflexion film)
